The pretty world of Instagram where we're not woke

The pretty world of Instagram where we're not woken by cats crashing pots of jade and jars full of feathers off kitchen shelves. A world with no broken glass. Where we're not overwhelmed by stuff and needs, the needs of others, animals, pets. Where nobody has to drag their tired pandemic bodies to the kitchen one more time, to cook, again and yet again. A pretty world with big wide blue skies streaked with morning clouds and sparkling dew. A well fed world. A sleeping in world where all the bed are rumpled and nobody cares. A world where nobody loses their shit and yells at their dogs for walking in the glass of their lives, their messy shattered lives. A world where we only cry for the sake of art and the crushing beauty of tears. This lovely world where we scroll for images of what our lives could look like. Here the black mirror fills with images of haze and fog, selfies, dreamy days and good hair. This world where we love ourselves in the midst of the mess. Where nobody sees the failures, only the getting back ups. Have we been co-opted by a dream? By some aspirational belief in better days. What about now? What about the glass? The kitten? The dog with that look on her face. What about this house and the way it smells lived in after 10 months of bumping into ourselves. What about now and the magic of the resurrection ferns on the tree that fell but won't die. The green after the rain. Green again. Green despite the sound of breaking glass.

Out walking yesterday. I love it out here in our P

Out walking yesterday. I love it out here in our Pecan Grove. Our house sometimes feels as busy as my head. It's so loud with everything I need to do. We have half a deck built onto the outbuilding out here. (☹ Ran out of money.) But I can come out here and sit and get quiet and the birds don't know I'm here. Invisibility is a gift. Our Pecan trees are really old, but they're wise. They've seen a lot of life pass by. I'm amazed by their network of limbs and roots and the way they communicate. I want to live out here, but I fear I would complicate and disturb the space. I would move in and my noisy thoughts would move in with me. And if I bring my cat he would eat the Warblers. 😢

This has been a bumpy year. It's not over yet. Calendar days are just paper days. We still have some bumps and waves to get through. There's an eclipse tomorrow that seems to be focusing in on my themes of the year. Relationships/Work/Home.

What is the work I most want to do? Can I do it? Will we continue to live here? This year has changed my relationship to the world. Close friends are scattered. Distant. Hidden behind masks.

The fog is so mysterious. Where are you? I can't see you. I don't know what the trees are thinking.
